Hi Everyone!! I want to share some wonderful news!!
As you all know, for the past few years I have been working with Rhode Island PBS on getting a Portuguese cooking & travel series aired on the PBS Stations throughout the USA. I envisioned it being based on my cookbook, bringing our culture and traditions to a mainstream audience.
First, a little of the back story!
This all came about from a breakfast at Tia Maria’s in New Bedford with Derrick, Al, and Brian, aka the Portuguese Kids (and Something Productions). It was our first time meeting and we became fast friends! They shared my vision from day one and have been generous with their time and advice every step of the way. They encouraged me to go for it, and their hearts are as big as their humor. Thanks, guys!
It then took two years to find the right production company, Cineasta Digital Productions. Dean Camara and Miguel Amezquita surely thought I was crazy when we started but they boldly signed on and traveled with me and recorded every step of the way. They’ve spent more hours watching me on video and piecing together the best experiences to share with you. They make me look like a pro, and I can’t wait for our next adventure together.
Finding funding also took a couple of years because PBS doesn’t provide any cash, it was all on me to raise the money. I can honestly say that getting people to see the vision AND want to be part of it was the hardest part.
The first company to help me was Bay Coast Bank, my largest financial supporter. They’re based in southeastern MA and Rhode Island and are just the best! I also need to say a special Thank You to SATA Airlines/ Azores Airlines for supporting us with flights to Sao Miguel for the production crew and me. Last but not least to the Bensaude Hotel Group for supplying us with a place to stay. Truly, we couldn’t have done this without these businesses and people. To say that I’ve heard hundreds of NO’s from other companies when asking for their sponsorship is an understatement!!! But these three companies believed in our vision and most of all they believed in me, and for that I will never forget. I am humbled and grateful for all they have done.
So here’s the deal:
The 8 part series “Maria’s Portuguese Table” will be premiering on WSBE TV- RI PBS on Friday, January 4th, 2019 at 8:00 o’clock pm for (episode one) and right after at 8:30 they will air (episode two)… The remaining episodes will air every Friday in January at the same time slot from 8:00 to 9:00 pm… Prime Time!!!
Once all episodes air on WSBE-TV ( RI, parts of MA & parts of CT) it will go into distribution and be available for all the PBS Stations in the USA!!!
I can’t explain it… it feels a little surreal. It’s been a labor of love & I am truly Blessed and Grateful for everyone that has been part of this journey with me.
